| 5 | Advice from the Conservation Officer The intention to remove the harmful cement render is a positive step and exposing the masonry should also shed some light on the earlier form of the building. However, it is likely that damp conditions beneath the render have resulted in loss of original mortar and the entire building may need repointing. If this is the case I would strongly recommend the use of a hotlime mortar and certainly not cement, which will cause erosion of the stone. It may also be found that some of the stone is spalled requiring replacement and ultimately the building may benefit from a sheltercoat of limewash or a breathable silicate render to ensure its longevity in a coastal environment. Whether the base of the new extension would be left bare in the long term is a matter for the owner but from a practical perspective should hinge on the hardness of the stone used. |
| 6 | Statement of Co-operative Working: The Local Planning Authority considers that the application as originally submitted is a satisfactory scheme and therefore no negotiations have been necessary. |
