| 1 | (1) The chandelier is attached to the chapel of Sir William Turner's hospital, a Grade I listed building. The chandelier is one of the greatest cultural assets that the listed building possesses and is a significant element within the overall decorative scheme of the chapel. Being of both architectural and historic interest, it is central to the special interest of the chapel and should not be removed. Its removal will result in significant loss to the historic and architecturally unique interior of this fine space. The removal of the chandelier would be contrary to the guidance and advice given in PPG15 and contrary to the Council's Local Plan Policy ENV10. |
| 2 | (2) The proposed Dutch brass chandelier has none of the special art or historical associations with the chapel that the existing chandelier has enjoyed for over 250 years. It is larger than the existing chandelier and quite different from the architectural style and composition of the interior chapel. Installation of the brass chandelier would therefore degrade the character and historic integrity of the chapel. Installation of the proposed chandelier would be contrary to the guidance and advice given in PPG15 and contrary to the Council's Local Plan Policy ENV10. |
